2010 has been quite a year for Kat Healy. Not only has it already harvested a Scottish tour with Andy Tucker (Burnsong winner 2009) and the Scattered Family and constant gigging around her native Edinburgh, it has also followed the release of a new EP late last year that once again marks her out as a musical talent to cherish.
Since her first gigs of 2005, Kat has been building a reputation as a singular presence on the Scottish scene, joining forces with her friends dotted around Scotland for impromptu gigs and hitting the road, guitar over her shoulder, playing anywhere that will have her. Her profile overseas has also been growing too, thanks to performances on prestigious stages such as the Berlin Pop Komm Festival and Sydney Songwriters Live stage. She is a performer who eats, sleeps and breathes music, with a ceaseless passion for singing and performing.
Kathryn Mary Clare Healy - but plain old Kat is fine - has been crafting her voice into an instrument as captivating as any of her female contemporaries from these shores. While there is an undeniable echo of the confessional female singer-songwriters of the past, perhaps somewhere between Carole King and Jewel, Kat's is unique, taking flight whilst delivering her own self-penned tales of hard-bitten romance and stories of people and places, framed with panoramic precision for the small details, and the truth.
Look out for her this September when she will headline the End of The Fringe 2010 show at The Lot, in Edinburgh, which will mark the beginning of her new project “Not Especially Beautiful”, a full length recording due for release in 2011. The project will be an interactive one where fans are able to download exclusive demos and clips, and read an online recording journal throughout the recording process.
